New Proton Experimental update improves multi-touch support and fixes the ’native’ scrollbar always being visible with FFXIV Online launcher.
Proton Experimental update is all bug fixes. Except one, which is an improvement in regards to CJK characters rendering “in many games.” No new compatilble titles with this update. Patch notes are as follows: fix A Plague Tale: Innocence showing on-screen keyboard when starting the game on the Steam Deck. fix rendering issues during cutscenes in Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell. fix Japanese keyboard input in Final Fantasy XIV Online. fix Football Manager 2023 crashing when trying to return from a player profile.
Pretty interesting update to Proton Experimental. Today’s update adds compatibility with Gungrave G.O.R.E. Force feedback compatibility has been improved with BeamNG and Forza Horizon 5. As far as bug fixes go, Alt+Tabbing should no longer present any issues for those of you using GNOME 43 or later. Also, Life is Strange Remastered should no longer crash after chapter 2. Proton Experimental Enables Compatibility with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Improved Steering Wheel Support
The first day of winter also marks a new update to Proton Experimental. Small one, but a good one. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt now apparently works – I’m assuming this is in reference to the recent DX12 upgrade that had been broken for so many people. Support for steering wheels has been improved, but in what way, the patch notes don’t mention. You might be able to take a look at the commit history to get a hint.
Proton Experimental Adds Support for eXceed - Gun Bullet Children, EA Desktop Should Now Properly Update
Small update for Proton Experimental is mostly focused on bug fixes. Though we did get a new game to play: eXceed - Gun Bullet Children. The EA Desktop (the EA App? I’m not sure) should now properly update, ensuring that games can now run, though this may require a few game restarts. Forza Horizon (probably both 4 and 5?) should now have the default mapping with the Logitech G920 wheel. And a regression was fixed for the Star Wars: The Old Republic launcher “failing to pen.
Proton Experimental Adds Fix for Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Vampire Survivors, Enables Hidraw for Simucube Racing Wheels/Fanatec Pedals
Yesterday’s Proton Experimental update mostly focuses on bug fixes. But in addition to game-specific fixes, we’ve got support for another game: 雀姬 (Mahjong ladies) – which, I believe, points to an anime board game. Hidraw has been enabled for Simucube racing wheels and Fanatec pedals. In case you’re not aware, hidraw “provides a raw interface to USB and Bluetooth Human Interface Devices (HIDs)” and is “useful for communicating with non-conformant HID devices which send and receive data in a way that is inconsistent with their report descriptors.
This one slipped under the radar, but better to cover it late rather than never, I guess. Wednesday’s update to Proton Experimental enables support for two additional titles: NinNinDays2 and King under the Mountain. Additionally, we got fixes for Halo Infinite, Spyro Reignited Trilogy, Seperra Core, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Sin of a Solar Empire: Rebellion, Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIII launcher, and Project CARS 2: Fix Halo Infinite not starting after a recent game update.
That EA App sure has become a royal pain, huh? Well, Valve/CodeWeavers are quick to address this dilemma. Flickering on this app should no longer be an issue on the Deck. In addition, Quake III: Arena and Quake III: Team Arena have the “weird texture” removed over the menu. That’s all for today’s update. See the patch notes on GitHub.
Despite today’s Proton Experimental update containing only three fixes, they’re good fixes nonetheless, especially if you use the new EA App in conjunction with Steam, which is apparently causing issues. If you were previously getting a blank window, that should no longer be an issue. Fixes have also been added for Warhammer: Vermintide 2 and The Anacrusis. The former should no longer throw an error when starting the game for the first time, and the latter should now display video when joining a match.
New update has landed for Proton Experimental. Newly playable titles include: Persona 5 Royal UNCHARTED: Legacy of Thieves Collection Gotham Knights Fixes have been added for: Super House of Dead Ninjas (frame hitching) Enemy Mind (frame hitching) Out There Somewhere (frame hitching) A Plague Tale: Requiem (OSK popping up on Deck) Alone in the Dark 3 (failed to launch on recent Proton versions) Lost Lands series (crashed when setting wallpaper) Haunted Hotel: Silent Waters (crashed when setting wallpaper) Jurassic World Evolution 2 (bad perf on recent Proton versions) See the patch notes on GitHub.
