Today’s Proton Experimental update mostly focuses on adding a few bug fixes for specific titles, but also enables NVAPI for several others. New Proton Experimental update has just landed. It’s a relatively small update but you’ll like it if you happen to be a fan of either Unravel 2 or Zuma’s Revenge! Both games are now playable. In addition, performance for HROT has been improved. Fixes have been added to Civ IV and OUTRIDERS – the former should no longer crash on world creation, and the latter should no longer hang on the black screen when launching the game on the Steam Deck.

If Gabe is into something, he really means it. So when he says he’s a Final Fantasy XIV fan, he’s going to get down to business. Because now the regression with said game when using different Proton prefixes should no longer be an issue. And that’s the only game that was shown any favor with this update. Talk about dedication. Today’s update to Proton Experimental is a small one, but a good one for those of you who were recently experiencing issues with either Assassin’s Creed: Origins or Warframe. The former should no longer hang during gameplay after the recent update to the game, and the latter’s launcher should no longer be empty (apparently it was an experimental regression). EDIT: today’s update also enables compatibility with Rift, I had overlooked that!

Proton Experimental Update Adds Several Fixes to Launchers and Adds Network Video Support for a Few Titles
The same day the first batch of Q3 emails for the Steam Deck go out also happens to be the day we get an update to Proton Experimental, just a little over a week after the previous one. This update mostly focuses on bug fixes, ranging from the following: the launcher for Final Fantasy XIV should no longer close if there isn’t enough space to download an update Elite Dangerous and other launchers should no longer exert strange behavior when using cloned displays Call of Duty: Black Ops II Zombies and Multiplayer should remain playable after connecting online Azur Lane: Crosswave should no longer hang on a black screen Chrono Trigger should no longer suffer from random crashing during cutscenes In addition to these bug fixes, we also have improved video playback for Persona 4 Golden.

A new update should be available in your Steam client for Proton Experimental, which landed just a few hours ago. Newly playable titles include The Rising of the Shield Hero: Relive The Animation and Paladins. Tekken 7 should no longer crash at launch. Also, several titles, particularly those using the Unity engine, no longer require the MFDXGI hack, including Rust, The Long Dark, Monster Train, V Rising, and many others. In other words, video playback in these games have been improved; they shouldn’t have any graphical distortion anymore.
