Some quick n’ dirty thoughts regarding the new Smash Bros-like game around the block.

Fraymakers is a game that I’ve been following closely. It’s basically a pixel-art platform fighter with mechanics that are akin to the Smash Brothers series. The team behind it is McLeodGaming, who also made Super Smash Flash and Super Smash Flash 2. This was originally slated to be released in Early Access on Steam back in August. It’s been pushed back and now we’ve finally got a release date: January 18th.

While it’s debatable whether MultiVersus will be a Smash killer, I’m happy to report the game now runs flawlessly on the Steam Deck. Previously, running the game was technically possible, but you would get kicked almost immediately if you joined an online match, due to EAC. Evidently, Warner Bros. listened to community feedback; after testing today’s open beta, I can confirm the kicking is no longer a thing. The game also has 16:10 support.

I had reviewed Guilty Gear -Strive- on Boiling Steam a little less than a year ago. In it I had mentioned how amazing the soundtrack is. Seems like Arc System Works was aware of that, so they deliberately held off from putting the soundtrack on Spotify or as a separate purchase on Steam. Well, today the soundtrack is now available for purchase. There’s two discs’ worth of content and they’re $10.
